This is an entry for . The objective is to create a feminine outfit for Link. It's not something I do typically, but interesting no less. I decided to attack the issue by useing thicknesses of clothes. The torso has the lightest clothing, and it gets thicker downward. This creates the illusion of a female body.
The other part of the contest was to list internet refferences. Unfortuneatly, I don't have any. The deseign was created yesterday, and that was also when my computer wouldn't boot up. If refferences are necessary, I'd recommend looking up photos for kimonos, loose t-shirt, and turtle shell (hat).
In case I don't win, I decided to make this worth my while by turning this into an experiment. This is the first time I've colored with photoshop completely. Not bad for a first time, I think, but it still raises questions. How does one go about the white streak (pants on right)?
Oh, positively lovely, sir. ^^ I'm so glad you thought to enter!
The thing about internet references was only if you used them- and really only included because I wasn't sure if all my artists could articulate their ideas clearly. So you're fine- no "points" deducted. ^^
What I really like about this in particular is that it looks a lot like what I've been calling "Hylian chic". Since the Zelda games themselves (and thus, Hylians) derive their fashions from garb worn in different real-world cultures- this seems to fit right in with the universe, which is something I really appreciate about this. ^^ It reminds me of the Ordonians () and the Gerudo.
Even better, it strikes me as something Zia, the fashion model, would wear. ^^
Really nice work though! Even if you don't win, I would happily use this someplace else... XD (with credit/permission, of course).
Now, Photoshop troubles? Hm, that pesky stripe...
What I would suggest (I'm not sure how you do it, but this is how I do) is to (from the beginning...):
1. Select your scan layer (it's labled "background") and double-click it. Click "ok" on the prompt so that it becomes "layer 0".
2. With "layer 0" selected on the layer menu, look at the white box labeled "normal" . Click the little blue arrow to the right of it to activate the drop-down menu. Select "multiply" from this menu. This will make it so you can color under the linework. You can do any space selections with "layer 0" selected (I recommend cleaning these up with masks- just ask for more on that. )
3. On the bottom of the layer menu, click the little peeling square to the left of the little trash can. Alternatively, you could open the drop-down layers menu at the top of the screen and click "new". Just make a new layer somehow- it should appear as "layer 1".
4. On the Layer menu, drag "layer 1"so that it's under "layer 0".
3. Color on "layer 1". You can make and color on as many layers as you want, as long as they are all underneath "layer 0".
That's basically it anyway... I'm not saying it's the best way out there, but I don't know any better- and it should get rid of that line.

Seriously, having a clip of Cd-I Link filling up the screen would be the greatest Final Smash ever. I can see it now...
The quick fix for that white line would be to just create another layer over the top and go over the white part with the brush tool (size three or under usually works best for this). It's by no means the best way to go about it, but it is the quickest and the easiest.
Oh, and I love Link's shoes.

"I see," said the blind man, as he picked up his hammer and saw.
Well...I still think reffering the refferences were necessary. If I saw this picture, I wouldn't be able to tell that the hat was a turtle shell. It wasn't well conveyed. : ( .
Well...the Gerudo's were in the back of my mind, but I didn't want the pants to be that exact shape/color. I wasn't thinking of the Ordonians, but now that you mention it, that's completely valid. I'm just more familiar with the Gerudo...
Ooos...thanks for the advice. : D . If I use photoshop again, I will try this. : )
Adjusting the layer properties is always a good idea. What Aries does in a lot of cases is, when he's presented with cold lineart, straight outta the scanner, is he finds the 'Adjustments' submenu in the 'Image' menu. It's fulla all kindsa goodies, specifically, Levels and Brightness/Contrast. Aries usually tweaks the Contrast to bring out the black out of the gray a little more, then tries his luck with the Levels to reduce that gray even more.
Sometimes it works out nicely, sometimes it requires a little hands-on pixel-painting to look just right. Changing the layer to Multiply should kill a lot of your gray, too, Aries'd experiment with levels, contrast and multiply layers to find the look y'like.

Project Comment is a project that features the generally obscured and underappreciated artists and their art in regular news articles. Our objective is to recognise deviants who deserve more recognition and to feature deviations with less than 10 original comments.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. Well, you told me it was a turtle shell, so I know! Haha. ^^ It still looks turtle-y...
Yeah, the Gerudo are classic. ^^ Like I said, this fits in perfectly with what I 'm going for with the comic as a whole
